Desiree Grace SC's story
Is your maternal (or even paternal) instinct overwhelming you? Do you miss taking care of an infant? If so, our little Desiree Grace, affectionately known as Gracey, may fulfill that longing--without the diapers!

Gracey came into rescue last Fall after she was found with a 2-pound mammary tumor, only weighing 10 lb. herself, and both eyes blind, protruding and painful from untreated glaucoma. She had two surgeries; the fist to remove the tumor which was benign, the second to remove her eyes.

Gracey is only about 7-8 years old but obviously was a product of medical neglect. She is sweet and potty-trained!  She pees as soon as her feet hit the grass. She finds her way in the house through the doggie door and when I hear her bumping into things in the house, I put her in her 'crib'. It's actually a bay's Pack-n-Play, but it has soft mesh sides. She sleeps and eats there and seems happy in it. She is taken out regularly to the fenced-in yard where she can wander around to her heart's content until she wants to come back in. She will come through the doggie door or scratch on the door.

Gracey is NOT your typical blind dog, though. She is not interactive with dogs or humans. On occasion, if my hand or chin gets near her mouth, she will give me some licks and her little tail will wiggle sometimes, but she doesn't give you much feedback and is a VERY special-needs baby indeed.

Gracey also has been diagnosed with early kidney disease and eats a special food, but only 1/3 cup twice a day, so it lasts a long time. She is spayed, microchipped, heart worm negative and vaccinated. She has even gained a little weight and now weighs 13 lb. She has to be led to the water bowl. We usually do that after she potties and before the long walks around the yard and after she eats.

It would take a very special person to want to take care of Gracey, but she's really no trouble. She takes long naps and sleeps through the night without uttering a peep.

If you want to find out more about Gracey, call her foster mom, Susie, at . Gracey is fostered in North Augusta, SC. Her adoption fee is $225.00.

Please use the foster momma or dad's contact information above for questions.
The process always begins with an application which can be found at The Boston Terrier Rescue of East Tennessee website
Note that in most cases, we do not adopt to families with small children, e.g., 'under 6,' as a precaution to the child's safety and the dog's safety. In some cases with larger Boston mixes or other dogs, we do make exceptions. Please ask the foster momma.
We prefer to place dogs within driving distance of where they are being fostered. If someone from outside the local area is approved for adoption, they must be willing to personally drive/fly to get the dog.  The East Coast division (NC/SC/VA/MD/DC) does have special transport capabilties for their kids.   Ask them.
Also, submission of an application and fee does not guarantee adoption of any specific Boston since that particular dog may have applications pending or may not be the right match for you.
